Student Membership Audition Requirements
1. Students wishing to audition for Jubilate Deo
Chorale & Orchestra must complete all application materials. Each student will
be contacted by phone/email regarding the time of the audition.
1a. If accepted, the student must be available at ALL of the scheduled dates.
Choir members are permitted two excused absences, but must contact the section
leader by phone prior to the absence.
1b. All auditions are closed. Only the student and voice jury will be in the
room.

1c. The student should read and keep a copy of all of the audition requirements
and dates included in this packet. If a student who auditions is a member of All
State Chorus, he/she may have a rehearsal conflict during November. Inform the
section leader.
2. Students will sing two diatonic scales & one eight note chromatic scale for
their appropriate voice part (see attached audition requirements). Key tone
pitches will be given on a C-C pitch pipe. The student will then sing the solo
as listed; the starting pitch will be given. The student will then sing his/her
part from the “Fairest Lord Jesus”, with the judges singing the complimentary
harmonic lines. The student may use the music. No judge will sing the same vocal
part as the student auditionee. The key tone pitch will be given; students must
find their starting pitch from the key tone pitch given by the moderator.
3. Students will be asked to sight read a standard SATB Choral Octavo.
4. Students should prepare a two minute memorized solo of their choice. Students
may bring a soundtracks CD or tape for accompaniment. The recording shall only
contain background music, no melody line. (vocal reference track)
4a. If students choose to be accompanied by a pianist, they should bring an
extra copy of the music for our pianist.
4b. If the student chooses to have his/her own accompanist, that person will be
permitted into the audition room only at the designated time during the
audition.
5. Please list all musical experiences, organizations, and responsibilities
(school and community) since 9th grade. (i.e. concert choir, church choir, drama
production, cantor, section leader)
6. The Choral audition will be held in a church. Please be appropriately
dressed.
7. If accepted, girls need a black ankle length gown, and an 18 inch pearl
necklace. A long black skirt and a long sleeve black blouse are permitted (no
slit). Black dress shoes. They should be comfortable.
8. If accepted, boys need a black tux or suit, white long sleeve shirt, and
black dress shoes. Cummerbunds and bow ties will be provided.
